Forums

There are two forums available to the PME community:

  • a forum called "Path to AGM" to be used for discussing issues that

may be voted on at the Annual General Meeting:

  • an Open Forum for all other discussions:

To participate in either forum, you must be a member of PME and obtain a login for this website. Please go to the Membership tab to become a member of PME. If you are already a PME member, please go to the Login tab if you need a login.

If you have a specific question for the Administrative Manager, please use the "Contact Us" button.

The Path to AGM Forum is described below.

The purpose of the Path to AGM forum is to discuss issues of interest to the membership as a whole, specifically, proposals to be discussed and possibly voted on at the Annual General Meeting. At the AGM in 2009 the IC presented a plan called the Path to the AGM. This plan was designed to help issues that need to be decided by the membership to move towards being voted on at the AGM. Clearly the time alloted for an AGM in insufficient to accommodate the raising, discussion, and voting of issues. This path provides more time to accomplish this. The path is as follows:

  1. An issue is brought to the attention of the IC through personal contact or from within

  the IC.

  2. The issue is raised at the Policy Meeting and discussed.

  3. The IC discusses the issue and decides if it is something that needs to be decided by the membership and, if so, which

  portfolio group will manage it.

  4. The relevant portfolio group forges initial language around the issue and sets timeline for when it should be brought to

the membership for discussion. A timeline is important to prevent congestion.

  5. The proposal is posted to the PME listserve and this forum. The membership is asked to contribute to the discussion

through the forum. The discussion on the forum will be monitored by the relevant portfolio group for 2 or more months. The

final date for discussion will be posted in the proposal.

  6. If there seems to be support by the membership, and based on the content of the discussion the relevant portfolio group

will forge the final language of the proposal as it is to be voted on at the AGM.

  7. The final proposal will be posted to the listserve and this forum and membership is directed to contribute to the

  discussion through the forum.

  8. Discussion through the forum is encouraged in the month leading up to the AGM as time will be seriously constricted at

  the AGM.

  9. The proposal will be read at the AGM followed by 10 minutes of discussion. All proposals will be voted on on the same

ballot and the results will be announced as soon as they are available.

As can be seen by this pathway there is ample opportunity for membership to discuss any issue of concern as it moves towards a vote. However, this is not to say that every suggestion posted by a PME member will follow this path. The IC takes seriously the responsibility of the work they have been elected to do. Some of this work includes making decisions on behalf of the membership. They are guided in this work by the constitution as well as policies voted in at prior AGMs.

Each proposal (either in its initial or final language) is linked to the Path to AGM Forum Page. To access them simply click on the Path to AGM Forum tab, then click on the link to the proposal of interest. If you wish to comment on the proposal you may do so by entering your comment in the Forum, under the appropriate Subject. All comments will be displayed up until the point that the proposal is voted on at the AGM.
