Abstract

Three of the core values in the Norway curriculum are ethical awareness, human dignity and democratic participation. In this report, we highlight how mathematics educators in teacher education include these values in their teaching. Results show that they put different emphasis on the three values, and their approach to teaching varied. Some chose to work explicitly with the values during a session, focusing on learning about the values, for example how they are presented in the curriculum. Others chose to have the values as a red thread through the whole course, putting emphasis on learning through the values, enacting them in class. Statistics and mathematical modelling were seen as easier to connect to the values. Both challenges and opportunities were addressed. We discuss implications of the results.
