Abstract

This study examines the embodied mathematical exploration of students when programming digital models for 3D printing. The challenge of fitting geometrical entities within others, creates a new Conceptual Field, “Inscribability”, within which our qualitative empirical research maps students’ lived experiences, strategies and tech-mediated practices (coding, dynamic manipulation) when creating functional physical models (3D printing). Findings highlight how digital tools actively mediate expression, artefacts and perception, negotiated through the body.
