Abstract

Mathematics education research increasingly examines facilitators’ decision-making through “lifting strategies” by which frameworks for researching mathematics teachers’ sensemaking are being lifted to the facilitator level. One such central example is the ROGI framework (Resources, Orientations, Goals, Identity; Karsenty et al., 2021). In this paper, we explore the possibility of lifting an ecological perspective on mathematics teachers’ sensemaking and agency, combining it with the ROGI framework, to explore sensemaking and decision-making processes of one facilitator leading a year-long professional learning community (PLC) for mathematics teachers. The study conceptualizes and illustrates facilitator agency as an ongoing accomplishment achieved through decision-making across the PLC ecologies.
